Our Mission
What is our purpose?
We believe that as athletes, it is our responsibility to use our social capital and influence to create cultures of consent: ones that prioritize safety, authenticity, equity, and accountability.
How do we do this?
Peer-to-peer facilitation and engaging programming encourages athletes to take ownership of their own team cultures, and replace harmful social norms with lasting cultures of consent and respect. These conversations are rare spaces for athletes to discuss the social norms around topics they navigate everyday (team culture, power dynamics, intimate relationships, peer pressure, rumor spreading, hazing, beauty standards, etc.), and are empowered to implement standards that promote consent, equity, and accountability.
Why do we do this?
Athletes have the power to change the world - CHAMP gives athletes lifelong tools to become the best leaders, athletes, and community members they can be: We know that cultures of consent are cultures of success -The keys that make athletes consensual, are the same keys that make them successful, which are the same keys that make them good people (see "Who is a CHAMP Athlete" below). Therefore by intentionally setting new team norms, athletes create pillars of ethos that guide them in the locker room, in the interpersonal relationships they navigate, around the community norms they influence, and eventually the way they show up in the world.
