Our Curriculum
The Playbook
CHAMP curriculum is developed from data-driven curriculum and evidence-backed solutions.
CHAMP uses a public-health based approach to sexual violence prevention, informed by two influential literary guides for sexual violence prevention in this generation:
Sexual Citizens - a landmark study of sex, power, and assault on campus by Columbia Professors Jennifer Hirsch and Shamus Khan.
Athletes As Leaders - a nationally-evaluated program for high school sports teams proven to increase healthy relationships and decrease sexual assault.
The Game Plan
Why consent culture through sports?
1) Teams are a great space to talk about sensitive topics. There is often an established sense of trust and talking with teammates about vulnerable topics increases team cohesion.
2) Teams are micro-communities, and need to set expectations of behavior and communication in order to be successful year after year.
3) Athletes have social capital in their communities. Whether or not we want to - We influence cultural norms every day. By setting intentional team norms around consent, we can harness the power of athletes to influence community wide positive social, emotional, and behavioral standards that make us better on and off the field.
